Booking help for studio and pop-up sessions

If you are setting up a private studio workshop, school pop-up or team building session, our support covers the basics that shape the day. That includes group size, age mix, carving level, space for inking and drying, plus whether a press, baren or hand printing setup suits the brief.

Questions about carving, inks and papers

Linocut and block printing work best when the tools and papers suit the project. We guide clients on soft-cut blocks for first-time carving, linoleum for cleaner line work, V-tools and gouges for safe cutting, and the different feel of water-based and oil-based block inks on cotton rag, cartridge and printmaking papers.

For edition work, registration marks matter, and so does the drying space between pulls. A clean bench, brayer control and a steady print rhythm help the final set stay consistent, even when the image is hand printed.

Support for schools and teachers

Schools often need a full hands-on session. The support side includes planning around counters, tables, drying racks, safe tool handling and the age range in the room. Teacher Skills Workshop bookings can also cover class management during carving, ink roll-out and print clean-up.

Venue setup for groups and travelling sessions

When the workshop moves off-site, venue setup needs planning too. We look at table layout, floor protection, water access, drying space and how many hands can work at one time without crowding the ink station. That applies to venues in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Bellville and Somerset West.

Some groups only need a compact classroom kit. Others need a full session with press printing demo, registration guides and finish time for editions. The right support keeps the print run orderly and the mess under control.

Beginner kits and studio materials

Beginner kits are useful for people who want to keep carving after a session. Support here includes helping clients understand what usually goes into a starter set, from a small block and a safe cutting tool to a brayer, ink, paper and a simple drying plan. It is practical, tested work.

  • Soft-cut or lino block
  • Gouge set with V-tool detail
  • Brayer and block ink
  • Paper for tests and final pulls
  • Clean-up materials for the studio table

Where enquiries are routed

Most support questions are handled through our contact form, so the right workshop lead sees the brief with the details that matter. If the job is for a family session, a student group, or a print edition with a press, the message can note the preferred venue, location and timing.

Woodstock is our base in Cape Town, and the team also handles workshop support for nearby areas and wider South African bookings. That keeps the conversations tied to the actual print job.

What the support team keeps an eye on

Our support covers the small things that shape a session, from the right paper weight to ink drying time and whether the image needs one colour or two. A print workshop runs better when the group knows the order of carving, proofing, printing and trimming.

That practical structure helps adults, students and families get more from the day, especially where editions need clear registration or where a venue setup has limited tables. The same applies in studio sessions and pop-up classes across South Africa.
